Serampore is the place where William Carey founded the mission vision for India.  It has immense historic and spiritual significance as the birth place of the modern missionary movement, communications, bible translation, science, education, social reform, India democracy and much more.

Serampore is the hub of the wheel and the central cornerstone for Christian education in India. Serampore is the only independent Christian University recognized by the Indian Government.  SU was founded by William Carey with a charter granted by Danish King Fredrick the Sixth in 1827 and reaffirmed after India’s independence in 1951.  Serampore University serves the entire protestant church of India and to provide higher education to all regardless of caste, creed, race, or gender.  This diverse independence has provided a solid foundation for scholarship and church leadership development serving the entire body of Christ throughout India and Asia.  Serampore University today has over 50 affiliated seminaries and bible colleges, with over 11,000 students and 2500 faculty members graduating thousands annually.

The main Christian Seminary structure of India is based on the Serampore Charter and Indian Government recognized accreditation.  Most protestant denominations and many independents only ordain Serampore Theological Seminary graduates and the majority of the church leadership in India are SU graduates.  

The mother institution in Serampore has no direct sponsoring denomination or private owner and has maintained this independence at a great financial cost as the expense of higher learning has skyrocketed over the past 80 years, exploding in the last 30 years.  When Serampore is revitalized the entire church in India will also be blessed.  

Serampore will reestablish its unique distinction with the core values, vision and mission founded by William Carey.  This needs to be initiated on the current campus and implemented with the current faculty and facilities while the new construction can be planned, funded and built.

The key to get this started is the modernization of the current classrooms and campus facilities for multimedia education training tools and distance learning course contextualization for India.
